In 2015, the Carlton Tavern, a 1920s west London pub was illegally demolished by greedy developers after being denied permission to convert it into apartments. They then paid a fine to the local authorities and kept pressing ahead with the redevelopment and counting their profits.

However many locals gathered to persuade the Westminster council to act. And they were successful. The owners (a company called CTLX) were ordered to rebuild the pub exactly as it had been before. From the red bricks to the distinctive tiled pub name.

On the 12th of April 2021, the pub was reopened. A win for the local community.
